chairman's message for 2010 - robin o'grady

As we look forward to a hot, dry summer and an enjoyable cricket season, I am pleased to be Chairman of Flamingo Cricket Club in 2010. There is no doubt that the Holt Cricket Ground, set in the heart of the Hampshire countryside at Upham, near Bishops Waltham is one of the most picturesque grounds in Hampshire and we are indeed fortunate to play our cricket there. When the weather is warm, there is no better place to be than at the Holt, watching Flamingo CC playing cricket in the sun.

Our 1st XI will again compete in the Hampshire Cricket League, County Division 2 and our 2nd XI in the Hampshire Cricket League, Regional Division 2 North East. I am delighted that Richard Manthorpe and Adie Heath were both re-elected to skipper the teams this season and I wish them both good luck in their pursuit of promotion from their respective divisions.

I believe 2009, our 50th Anniversary season was a successful one. Whist there were no team promotions, the spirit and enthusiasm within the Club was high. The season concluded with a memorable weekend. Flamingo CC hosted another visit from the Lashings World XI and their world famous international cricketers who beat us for the third successive year. The following day members past & present played a commemorative match to celebrate our “half century”.

As I look forward to 2010, my thanks go to everyone associated with the Club. Whether playing, umpiring, scoring, preparing the square, cutting the grass, making the teas, uploading the website or maintaining the clubhouse etc., your efforts are much appreciated. Without you, there is no Flamingo Cricket Club.

Also, as I write this seasonal message, I would like to welcome the new associate members to our club from the Brigadier Gerard pub, who will be playing under the name of the “Millbury Flamingos” on Sundays and Thursdays. I know everyone will make them very welcome.

Have a great summer and enjoy your cricket.

Robin O'Grady

Chairman, Flamingo CC
